Yay or Nay? Ekaterina Ivanovna Nelidova

Everyone seemed to be quite taken with Sara Fermor's blue gown and she got a big Yay from the panel although Girlfriend needs to hire a new hairdresser! Yikes! Since we all seemed to enjoy the Russian runway I selected another victim contender for a full-on fashion evaluation. This one comes to us from the Empress School for Noble Maidens, but hopefully that won't bias you!

Dmitry Levitzky paints Ekaterina Ivanovna Nelidova (1773) who seems rather pleased with her pink trimmed gray/green pastoral gown. Yay or Nay?

  1. Yay, and I admit her jolly expression helps quite a bit!

Yay, but the material looks stiff.

  3. This gown style seems slightly unusual somehow, but the soft colors, the grey, the pink etc; go quite well together! So a definite "yay"!

  4. It is so pretty. A huge YAY! To me, however, she seems a little too short for the dress but the item itself is gorgeous. Her arm length seems too short. I haven't seen a dress on the "yay or nay" section that pretty in awhile. Once again, YAY!

  5. It's a great dress, but it doesn't look like it fits her properly. So yay for the dress, but not for her in it.

  6. Oh, I love her smile and the way she holds her lace apron! Yay!

  7. A definite Yay for me- although I would have preferred the colours to be a tad less drab (to suit that personality!)

  8. Is she a dancer? Or a performer? The dress looks a bit short and the position of her feet-ouch! But its still very pretty. A yay.

  9. Yay - loving the colour combination - although it reminded me of a school uniform even before I read the synopsis.

  10. The dress/outfit gets a big YAY from me and the little slipper shoes are adorable. But the perspective in the picture? OY! Her arms look way too short (unless they really were) and her hands look more like baby hands. Couple that with the hair that makes her head look too big and...

Just show the costume and it's perfect! ;o)

  11. The color of the dress is one I call 'mouse brown' because it has a little bit of a cocoa warmth to the grey - and it is one of those tones I really like and think of as sophisticated. I love the dress, the shoes, the hat, etc. Only little change I would make is to exchange the black neck ribbon for one that was a darker, rose version of the pink piping on the dress. Otherwise, I think it is sublime. Yay and yay.

  13. Yay! I usually don't like the "sheep-herder chic" dresses, but this one is really charming!

  14. I love it. The colour combo and stripes almost give it a contemporary feel. Plus, she has a sweet face. A big Yay from me.

  17. I can't decide whether to give this one a yay or a nay--can I give it a 'yawn' instead? I don't wildly dislike it, but on the other hand I don't find it particularly exciting...

  19. Well for once we have someone that looks genuine happy. Its a breath of fresh air from the so serious look and feel of most other portraits. I love the colors together and the way they look on her, but i think maybe in different lighting the grey/green may become somewhat drab. I am not fond of the short length and the front is a little plain for me however, the ruffles make up for it and i suppose a little goes a long way. I think the hair is perfect!!! YAY!!!

  26. She's quite chipper isn't she? Guess I'd be too if I had that frock. I'm a sucker for pink any green, so that'll be a big yay from me! Extra points for het cheerful demeanor.

  27. I like the front design, so I'll give it a yay. I think that if she (and that facial expression) were put in a bright, frilly thing, we'd all be saying "Oh, my God, no!!" Let's also not forget how lovely that lace is!
    So it's a yay.

  28. I don't know if anyone watches Glee but Miss Nelidova's face reminds me of the character Kurt Hummel! (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2630/4055203169_7642af4fb5.jpg)
The dress is a little bit bland, but it looks as if you could hear it rustle. Though for my personal style I'm going to have to go with a NAY.
