2 Cellos 1 Rock Classic (and a Scandalized 18th-Century Crowd)

This video has been making the rounds upon its entrance into fine society, and by request of RetroBlog, I present it here.

These two dashing gents are Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser of 2CELLOS and in their video for  AC/DC's “Thunderstruck” they chose the austere and polite setting of an eighteenth-century theatre.

Hmm...the crowd doesn't seem sold.  Bring in the acrobats!

I quite like it, although I think they could do with a nice powder wig (a la Amadeus?) or at least a regency haircut.  Oh wait, not to mention their actual musical prowess is AMAZING.

Rakish Good Fun!

Vampire Weekend is known for the creative and spunky music videos and this one is not just appropriate for this blog but appropriate for this week!  In their video for Holiday they decided it shouldn't just be the girls who have all the fun prancing around in 18th century wear and donned some appropriate clothing to be causing a ruckus in.

Pop Up Video- Walking on Broken Glass

I've written before about my love of a good 18th century themed music video.  It takes a great diva like Annie Lennox to do our century proud.  The younger audience may not be familiar with Pop-Up Video which delivered great trivia while watching music videos; it personally made me undefeatable at Rock and Roll Jeopardy when that was still on.

The good people at Spin the Bottle have many of these pop-up classics, and we can thank them for the video below which contains both the amazing Walking on Broken Glass video and the fun trivia that goes with it.  I was surprised there was no mention of Hugh Laurie which shows America's general ignorance to his existence in the mid-90's.  Enjoy, and learn something in the process!

Hot Tranny Messes

We all know our fav gay icons love the 18th century. You can't keep fabulous things apart. I saw this awful Girls Aloud video when I was in Ireland in March and they tried to do the fab 18th century music video but failed miserably. Why? Because they decided to wear 18th century-esque undergarments and prance around in kitschy splendor. Nope, doesn't work. Ladies, show them how it's done.

Madonna:

Annie Lennox, whose fabulosity needs to be restrained to youtube and therefore will not provide embedding: Walking on Broken Glass (a must!)

Fierce!

Wait, is that Hugh Laurie in the video?

Oh my God, I'm convinced. Sometimes I amaze myself.
