I lately translated a play called "Eugenie" which, though a French play, was supposed to be set in England. The playwright was very specific about the 'English costume' of the characters. These pictures are helpful -- the aprons and bonnets with another hat on top seem to have been very distinctive English fashion traits.
I love these! I wish they had it as a calendar now, I would definitely buy it.
