If I may draw your attention to the right side of the blog. I just added a new widget where you can voice your opinion (in the form of stars) on what you thought of The Duchess. I have not been able to cast my vote seeing as the people at Paramount Vantage want to torture me by prolonging the release date more and more each week. Hopefully, by October 10th I will have a detailed review of the film and I hope everyone else who has seen it will voice their opinions in detail there as well. But for now, please give it your star rating!
jaja i was wondering why you hadnt have posted your opinion about the movie yet.... hooo well.....we ll have to wait a few more days
ReplyDeletebye!! take care
Ha! Yeah, I'm not one to hold back on my opinion. But now I am just bitter about having to wait a month later than I was originally told to see this film! I am really looking forward to everyone's else reviews/opinions too. Others have posted their reviews on their blogs and I've resisted reading them so I am not biased!
ReplyDeleteWaaah! Seriously, I hope someone else gets to see this thing soon, I need a gossip partner! I think I might need to see it again this weekend. Now that the 'newness' of it has had a chance to sink it it's time for a more critical viewing...
ReplyDeleteMythosidhe, if you head over to my blog, Scandalous Women, you can see exactly what I thought of the movie.
ReplyDeleteI've seen both of your reviews and felt so left out! Like the girl who didn't get Totally Hair Barbie at Xmas, lol. I was supposed to be gossiping about this since the 19th! I think I'll probably have to see it more than once too, regardless of how I feel about it.
ReplyDeleteYes but better if it was a ligther colour,
ReplyDeleteI was lucky to get preview tickets and saw the movie two weeks ago. I liked it a lot. The actors were great, the stage and costume design too. However, there were some weird things that spoiled it. For one, the children were always the same age, no matter how much time passed. Charlotte was supposed to be 3 when first introduced, then 13-15 at the end of the movie. But she was played by a 6 year old the whole time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that's not a big deal but it makes you question how realistic the movie is. And that's my major concern about the movie. So many things about G's life were changed that I'm not sure if you can say the movie is about her. Maybe the producers should've said "based on the life of" instead. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but a lot of siginificant important facts of G's story are changed. I guess the director wanted her to seem more like Princess Diana and really emphasized the similarities and ignored or glossed over the differences. You'll be dissapointed if you expect to see a faithful retelling of the life of G. However, the movie itself is good and worth seeing.
mmmm....wow!!!!!
ReplyDeletei need somebody to talk about the movie too :P
i think i'll have to see it again
I have just seen the movie Duchess and enjoyed it immensly. No being up on the English Aristocracy I had never heard of G, and have now found all these websites with the true story of her life. It doesn't matter to me that the movie changed the story, I enjoyed every minute of it and loved the scenery the costumes and all the actors. Yes I felt sympathy for G which is probaly what the movie was supposed to make one feel, and I couldn't help commenting to my friend at the end of the movie "haven't us girls come a long way". Please everyone go and see this great movie.
ReplyDeleteI agree bendida!
ReplyDeleteAnon- It's funny that you mentioned that to your friend, because I felt that the film used the viewpoint of victimizing the heroine. The biography that it is based on is actually empowering. In it, you actually find yourself amazed how far we were beginning to come...but were set back in the Victorian age. Since you enjoyed the movie so much I think you will really enjoy the book, I highly recommend it!
