For some, like myself, plaid will never die; my closet is just full of it in a every form and color. But sadly for
Niel Gow, his plaid pants and matching socks were met with a Nay. In fairness, the results were split right down the middle; so it wasn't a landslide defeat. But perhaps the rustic look isn't to your liking? In that case let us return to our fancy-wear. Scratch that, we're going straight up Rococo!
Antoine Pesne paints the queen of Prussia (1739) in blue with pink bows. Yay or Nay?

ReplyDeleteOh I will have to say Nay. The big bow around her neck is just to much. To be specific I think it is the style of bow. I have seen other portraits with bows around the neck and thought nothing of it. This one seems so stiff and overpowering.
ReplyDeleteI am with the Muse in the Fog; that neck bow is awful and its not improved by those things in her wig. The blue dress almost looks like it could have been designed by Wedgewood. Very chocolate box.
ReplyDeleteI agree on the bow - something about that and her little nose and mouth makes her look like a cat!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is good, but a nay because of her poor accessorising! (What are those things in her hair? It looks like a raspberry or a pink tribble!)
This one gets a big fat nay from me. Lose the neck bow, the bosom bow, the fruit in her hair and give her a bit of color (she looks too ghostly for me) and it would work. The dress beneath all the frou-frou is very classic. But it gets lost.
ReplyDeletePink tribble! *snort*
Nay. The bows kill it.
ReplyDeleteI'm havin' to say Nay on this one...not doing it for me with that huge neck bow and those pompom things in her hair.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'll go against public opinion and declare that I like it, bows and all. And because I almost always have a complaint I won't let you down: I don't like the one carnation/spray rose that looks like it's going to fall in her face and topple into her ahem. Also, if were being picky (and I am) I don't love the cut of her bodice. A little too off the shoulder, which makes the lace go right down the center of her bosoms and makes her look bustier. (Though I admit that that cut is proportionately necessary due to the size of her neck bow.)
ReplyDeleteAll done. Aren't you glad you asked? :P
Actually I love bows, anywhere, so it's a YAY for me(:.
ReplyDeleteI really do need to make a google.
I love blue and pink and bows are my downfall. I absolutely love it! So I'll have to go yay! Now... where do I get one of those... :)
ReplyDeleteI'm in favor of the dress, but`against the size of the neckbow. Overall it's a yay, very classic.
ReplyDeleteThis group always hates headgear, but I think this version is charming. Headgear is part of the times. I like the play of blue and white or silver, with contrast of pink AND red. Not so matchy matchy. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteLoving the stomacher (am I sensing a theme here Heather?) but the bows and the rest must go. Plus she looks more like a character from Beatrix Potter books than anyone I have ever seen before.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to say Nay. I love the color combo but the overall look is too starched.
ReplyDeleteYay! Pink bows? I have to say I love it.
ReplyDeleteyay to me ^__^
ReplyDeleteI would have to say Nay to the bow, and Yay to the rest! ^___^
ReplyDeletelooks like a poodle to me. NAY
ReplyDeleteMargravine, I think you have hit it right on the button. I was trying to figure out what it was she reminds me of, and then you said it. She looks exactly like a human poodle.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to give it a Nay, though I have the sad suspicion that the same ensemble by a different artist would have drawn rave reviews from all and sundry.
I'm going to have to say NAY.
ReplyDeletePartly because of the bow around her neck and her accessorising ( or lack thereof).
I love the dress though, it's divine.
I personally adore this! Although the bow around the neck is a bit large I still like it.
ReplyDeleteI give it a Yay!
(I see that she also spells her name the same way that I do! Which tends to be rare.)
yay, i am actually living in an area that was prussian before 1918... so i'll be patriotic once again.
ReplyDeleteI say Yay. Yes, the bow is a bit big, but the rest is lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt's a NAY from me, I'm afraid, and for the same reasons as most others: that neck bow is dreadful and the decorations in her hair seems utterly random and completely at odds with the rest of the ensemble. Shame, it had so much going for it, too!
ReplyDeleteThis time a Nay. I just don't like it. She has got a sweet look, but the bow tie doesn't suit her quite so well and her upper-body looks so obese!
ReplyDeleteIt would be a yay for me without the bow 'round her neck. Sadly, I'll have to go with a Nay.
ReplyDeletenay. the neck bow is too stiff, and I'm just not crazy about the combination of blue and pink. warm and cool colors, but they don't contrast in a way that pleases my eye, though it might another's.
ReplyDeleteNay. The outfit looks too sickeningly sweet.
ReplyDeleteI say yay! I think the colors compliment each other very well, and the silver adds a nice, unusual touch as well. My only complaint is that I wish the artist in question were more talented, so he could do better justice to her outfit.
ReplyDeleteYay~! I adore that giant neck bow and the pink/silver/blue combo!
ReplyDeleteOh. my. God. Hahaha! I love this! To all the bow-haters, you have to admit that without it, she'd just be a pasty-looking, boring woman with a crown and a butt-chin. I give it a yay because it made my day (and that rhymed). However, those.. ahem, things in her hair (no, not tribbles) are really, really weird.
