As Paul said, "Everybody loves vanilla." So true! Madame Henriette came out with a big "Yay!" Well if everyone likes vanilla perhaps we should stir it up a bit and add color to mix.
Marcello Bacciarelli paints Izabela Lubomirska (1757) in her gown of blues, lace choker, natural feathers, and artfully assembled ermine cloak. Yay or Nay?
Ah the Distillery Baroness aka The Blue Marquise... I think I prefer Elisabeth LeBruns portrait. This is a bit too frivolous - considering she was a woman of business, I like LeBruns take a bit better.
Still, it's beautifully executed by Bacciarelli :)
boy i could just see the peasants slaving to make all those fine materials (lol). It's pretty in a painting but it looks very starched and the ruching looks like tacky satin curtains from the 60's. I suppose the dog had to counteract with the choker otherwise she'd look like a museum piece rather than a human. The colors are what's great but still too much going on.
sigh. How can you not love a time when being considered Over the Top was not a bad thing? I don't know where to look first--the lace of her sleeve, the flowers in the basket, the musculature of the dog...all that busy-ness, so beautifully rendered. Yay from me!
Obviously A Woman Of Substance. I am not quite getting the choker thing, but she pulls everything else off beautifully. A Woman to be Obeyed, certainly! A big fat over-the-top Yay from me.
There is a alot going on, but i love it!! especially the hat and hair. The only iffy piece i dont particularly like is the layers of lace on the sleeves.
Yay! Fab colour, love the flow of line, the organic flow of the dog balances out the stiffness in some of the fabric. Yes it's a bit over the top but if you can afford it why not once in a while & where better than a portrait.
Eh I forgot to mention that I was speaking about the clashing of the red and blue of the dress and how it wouldn't be perfect without them together... If that makes any sense at all...
I love every bit of this portrait! She definitely looks like a woman who was comfortable with herself and probably didn't think twice about making decisions. A "Yay" for me.
Yay! She looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteYay!

ReplyDeleteNAY.
I say Yay! She looks lovely and yes it's overdone in a way, but they hadn't got to the Regency by that point.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost too much, almost. However everything IS artfully arranged and she has a lovely face, which helps to pull this off. Yay!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea why, but I took one look at this one and went 'Wow!' So, she gets a big yay from me even though it's too busy and too woodenly formal.
ReplyDeleteMaybe it's the dog ;o)
Ah, so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYea all the way!

ReplyDeleteoh my gosh, I love this so much! I just love the whole thing, the dress, choker, cloak and colors! Yay!

ReplyDeleteA very big YAY! Even though I feel that it clashes, oddly enough the dress wouldn't be perfect without it. She wears it beautifully

ReplyDeleteFor some reason I really like it. So YaY for me!
ReplyDeleteYAY!
ReplyDeleteShe looks elegant, and appears to be comfortable!
A little busy, but since the colors are not too bizarre, it looks dramatic and romantic. Yay.

ReplyDeleteNot loving the cloak, but the dress + hat + choker is so lovely that I give it an enthusiastic YAY!
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteI think the colours and all are really suitable.

ReplyDeleteYay! I like that the hair and dress are big and colorful, but at the same time neither over-accessorized nor over-trimmed. Big YAY.
ReplyDeleteA big YAY!
