Yay or Nay? Princess Natalia Alexeievna

Poor Lady Charlotte.  She had a passion for the retro and our panel took one look and said Nay, no way, Lady!  It's such a bummer when the empire-waist makes you look pregnant.  Then there are the times when you are pregnant and get your portrait painted (how rare!).  What to wear then?

Alexander Roslin paints Natalia Alexeievna (1775) in her pastel green long-sleeved jacked over a peach gown.  Yay or Nay?

  4. Are you saying she was preggers? If so, probably should not have gone with the waistcoat, then. And can we not sit up straight?!? Nay.

  5. I just read her story on Wikipedia and so knowing that she died in childbirth makes it impossible for me to be objective. So sad. However I will say I do love what she is wearing, so a Yay from me.

  6. I give her a yay for the color combo and shimmering taffeta. It's a shame she died so young, and so unecessarily. But, I'm sure her MIL didn't care who fathered the baby, because she was quite a tart herself!

  8. I'm a limp yeah on this one. I like the colors which suit her, and so I tilt to the positive.

  10. I think it's beautiful. The fabrics are nicely paired and the embellishments are awesome. In the 'flattering to her figure' category, I think it's a bit weak, but who knows? Maybe that was as good as it got. She looks at ease in the gown and the painting itself has a gorgeous sense of light.

  11. Alas it must be a nay.

I love the colour combination but it's a bit fussy and she looks MORTIFIED.

  13. Nice colours but the bow just makes the outfit look busy. It's a bit distracting.

  14. Anyone willing to sit for a portrait while pregnant gets a yay- Plus, I think she looks sweet.
Can you tell me about the broach? Is it the same broach she is wearing in the Alexander Roslin portrait?

  15. Sorry, I should say the other Roslin portrait.

  16. Yay, but the bow needs to go. Lovely colours that go so well with her complexion. There is a delicate & refined sense of light & life from it.
