Georgiana the Poetess

I came across an interesting article about Georgiana on Jim and Ellen Have a Blog Too which is a great blog that I always find amusing. Although I don't necessarily agree with all their statements in the article (chiefly the one made about her love, or lack thereof, of her illegitimate daughter, Eliza Courtney) I think it is worth a read especially because it focuses on Georgiana as an author and poet which is usually overshadowed by the other amazing aspects of her life. Check the article out here.

  1. That reminds me, did you know there's a recording of one of Georgiana's songs? The album Jane's Hand: The Jane Austen Songbooks (http://www.classicsonline.com/catalogue/product.aspx?pid=472042#) includes a wonderful interpretation of 'I Have A Silent Sorrow'. I find it intriguing that Jane Austen would have some of Georgiana's writing copied into her personal notebooks, especially considering the speculation that Mr. Darcy's Pemberley was based on Chatsworth...but there I go rambling off topic again!

  2. Off topic is my specialty. I would just looove to read a Jane Austen account of a Chatsworth house party! Delicious! She, at least, would see Bess' true colors---and I'm not talking Buff and Blue. Though if I had my way her colors would be black and blue. (Evil chortling here.)

Ooo...and thanks for the site address. I'll have to check it out.
