On the Twelfth Day of Christmas Countess Spencer Gave to Me...

Twelve catty comments...

Lavinia Spencer was Georgiana and Harriet's trash-talking sister in-law. Her nasty attitude and spiteful manner earned her a place as a tart of the week. But it is her stylish winter-wear that makes her an adorable ornament this season. Warning: warm clothes made be required for her chilly disposition.

  1. I've always loved this portrait! Thanks for all of the info on her. I had no idea she was Irish.

  2. That portrait is made by the swedish artist Alexander Roslin! I didn't know that it was a Spencer sister actually.

  5. Though Lavinia isn't really one of my favorite tarts, I've always liked this portrait. It's nice (for a change) to see a picture whose subject is dressed in what was actually worn, instead of Reynolds' classical drapery.

And I love that the Huntington museum has a portrait of Lavinia NEXT to the Reynolds full-length of Georgiana. Like they were bosom buddies. Haha!
