  2. The drawings in the background are one of the reasons I love this piece so much. So estate houses would have drawings printed into wallpaper and I wonder if that is the case in this image. Although, it probably isn't.

  3. Oh my word, what an outstanding portrait! How have I never seen it before? I'm surprised it hasn't turn up in any of the Marie Antoinette bios.

    Amusing side note--I googled Marie Christine after seeing this post to look for more of her paintings, and I happened to find engagement and wedding announcements for the *current* Archduchess Marie Christine of Austria! Apparently her new husband is Count Rodolphe of Limburg Stirum. Hurrah for royal gossip!
