Yay or Nay? Madame la Vidame d'Amiens

Well Lady Susan Fox-Stangways certainly had us scratching our heads in wonderment on how her dress managed to crawl up her neck and attack her, but we still dug her threads, earning her a Yay.  This week we shall check out another classic cut that is drawn in an elusive way, leaving much to the imagination.  How mysterious!

Louis Carrogis Carmontelle draws Madame la Vidame d'Amiens who has a rather advanced knowledge of exterior pockets (aka purses) in her rosie gown of white.  Yay or Nay?

    Maybe it's the way it's rendered, but I find it to just be too many roses. Perhaps with a mitigating color, or from a different angle, but as it is I give it a Nay.

    As a cake, if there is a tart lemon custard between layers to balance out the sugary sweetness, I say yay! Otherwise, nay nay nay nay nay!

    Awww.... when my son was four he gave me a little glass figurine he bought at The Dollar Store and it looks just like this lady (he also gave me the matching gentleman) so how can I NOT give her a solid YAY.

    I am ambivalent and I'm not sure why. It's delicately rendered, she has a sweet face and looks as if she's enjoying the sitting and I have no objection to the dress itself though for me, there is an overabundance of roses. And that says a lot since I have over 100 rose bushes in my yard! It just doesn't speak to me one way or the other.

    Far be it from me to say no to pink or roses, but as portrayed here I think it really is just a bit...much. Nay.

    I am trying to imagine the poor person who had to hand sew all those roses. I think she (he?) probably looked at the finished dress and thought "Damn, I put way too many of those #@*!&$ roses on this thing", yet couldn't bare to cut one off. Yay for effort.

    BEWARE! Your dress appears to have contracted the pox! And by your rosy cheeks I fear you may be coming down with some dread illness yourself. Time to quarantine the dress and retire to your rooms until you can be sure you will not infect the entire court with pink spots!
