Yay or Nay? Olga Zherebtsova

Well that Yay was heard loud and clear!  Comtesse Regnault de Saint-Jean d'Angely and her green gown were showstoppers and perhaps the most popular Yay or Nay yet!  It's a little daunting to come up with a followup to judge.  But then again, where would the fun be if we always had Yays, especially showstopping Yays.

Jean Louis Voille paints Olga Zherebtsova (late 1780s, early 1790s) in purple sulk and white gauze.  Yay or Nay?

  2. I like the jaunty coat, but that thing around her waist looks like a chastity belt.

    Overall I'd say yay.

  3. I say Yay, don't like the belt but I'm swooning over the colors.

  4. Not fond of her wig, she's fluffed it up - looks I tad sheep or Mr Whippee icecream.

  6. I give her a yay, she has a sweet face, although I agree that her wig looks like a gigantic piece of cotton candy.

  8. I would have liked to see more detail about her neckline but the gauze fischu renders the outfit somewhat hazy and non-descript. All I can muster is a half-hearted "meh". But she has a sweet face so I'll give her a Yay.

  10. The wig is ludicrous, but the overall effect minus that is wonderful so a qualified yay!

  12. Hmm. Hard to decide, but I'll say yay.

  13. Couldn't decide, until I saw the very eloquent "meh". That about sums it up for me.

  14. Yay for the wonderful detail of the fabric; color, sheen, embroidery, line and folds, even the chair is beautiful. When one takes the time to look this is a wonderful painting. I am sure her wig was very high fashion and most beautiful at the time. I say powder on!

  15. Nay, only for the fact that I don't like the web like look at her neck, and the wig does turn off the rest of the outfit. Beyond that it looks well.

  16. I have to agree with @Paul Miller and JaniceB and say Meh. I just can't decide on whether i like it or not. It's just...meh. Doesn't really shout out to me.

  17. I say Yay. But I'd be more enthusiastic without that odd piece at her waist. But she looks quite graceful, especially her outstretched hand.
