Brrr!

Brr, it's cold out there. I was planning on running errands but the snow and wind chill are convincing me otherwise. Plus, I don't have a fashionable "Perdita" muff. I think the reason there lacked so much (or not enough) fashionable 18th century winter gear in prints and portraits is because fashionable ladies always had someone else to go off into the cold and run their errands. But of course, when you just wanted to show off your winter complexion there was always something of vogue in your wardrobe, just in case.

  1. Oh wish those were still in! About fashionable winter wear somewhere in our closet...I have a new pair of elegant winter boots that Georgiana would just die for; point, heel and all- what do I wear day in and day out??? My usual big Canadiana trekking snow boots!

  2. Those boots sound fabulous! I was just lamenting how I needed both fashionable and functional winter boots to romp along the salted city streets, those sound like what I've been needing. I've had to suffice with my wellies in this weather, not very suitable in the insulation department!

  3. Every lady should have a muff! As i'm sure Marie-Antoinette and her sisters must have had -just remember those sleigh-rides round Schönbrunn...
I have one, in mink and with the most heavenly lining of flowing golden silk - i don't really approve of fur of course, but this one's vintage...
